Hey girl, what’s up? I see that you have a few questions about our post, ‘What Does The Bible Say About Partying And Clubbing?’ Your first question was, "Can Christians drink at all or only in moderation?" And then your response was that you do bars only to hang out with your friends, but you don’t dance, just chat and have a few drinks, but not get drunk.

Ok, now I have a few questions for you. Why would you want to hang out at a bar? What reason are you having a drink or two? Is it because you enjoy the taste, or are you feeling pressured by your friends to still participate in drinking, or do you like that slightly buzzed feeling after you’ve had a few drinks?

Stop and think about those questions and then really ask your self, ‘Where am I in my Christianity?, Where am I going with this relationship that I have developed with Jesus Christ? The bibles says that we should not allow sin to control the way we live and we should not give into sins and lustful desires. We should not let any part of our body become a tool of wickedness, to be used for sinning. Instead we should give ourselves completely to God since He has given us a new life, through being born again. (Romans 6:12-13)

We should close the doors of our past lifestyles, which are doorways for the enemy to come into our lives, and instead open the door to a new and true relationship with Jesus. (Revelations 3:20) Once you have totally closed those sinful doors of your past, ask God to not allow anyone or anything to open it again. When you open the door to Jesus He will lead you to a new way of living where you won't desire to go to drinking at bars. (Revelation 3:7-8)

I have another question for you. Are the friends that you are hanging out with also Christians? If they are not, but you are, then you should be setting an example for them. When they ask you to go out, and they want to go to a bar, then you, child of God, should recommend some place else. And if your friends ask you why then you explain to them that you are growing out of that lifestyle and you are stepping your game up to something better. This also gives you an opportunity to share about your relationship with Jesus.

Being a Christian, does not mean that you give up life and walk around holding a bible and quoting scriptures to everyone that comes in your pathway. God wants us to enjoy life to the fullest. But He wants us to do it in a way that is pleasing to Him, and that will draw others into the kingdom. Remember that you are the salt of this unseasoned earth. (Matthew 5:13) You are a light in this dark world, so let that light shine wherever you go and among the people you are with. (Matthew 5:14)

Now this does not mean that you should take your light into a dark place, and sit down and indulge in the things that the dark place is offering. God knows that we are in this world but He does not want us to be a part of what the world is offering to us. (Romans 12:2)

Your other question was about dancing. There's isn't anything wrong with dancing. There is something wrong with a Christian dancing to vulgar, obscene and degrading music. There is something wrong with a Christian hanging out in a club and partying with those that do not have a relationship with Jesus. It’s okay to dance, even to music that is not Christian based, but yet it is encouraging to the soul. It’s all in the way you do things. Dancing should be done in a manner that glorifies God.

Ask yourself this question, Why participate in something that will only cause you to have to go before the Lord and ask Him for forgiveness? Why not just do what is right?

I want to leave you with a few thoughts and I want you to really think hard about them and go before God in prayer with them. Then when you are done praying take the time to be still and silent so that you can hear His answer.

"When I’m sitting in the bar with my friends do I have that feeling of guilt and even shame?"

"After I’ve had a few drinks and I’ve left the bar with my friends, how do I feel? "

"When I go to a dinner or party and the music is really pumping with some lyrics that includes obscene language and I hit the dance like its nobody’s business, I wonder what God is thinking about my actions then? I wonder if He is saying; “Well done, my faithful servant”?

“Do the friends I hang around with know that I am a Christian and if they do, why are they still wanting me to hang out in a bar? Could it be that I’ve never given them a reason to think that I have totally changed?"

"Have I changed, or am I still living in my pre-Christian lifestyle?"

I hope that my words have jogged something in your heart that would cause you to really think hard about the way you spend your social time.

We will be praying for you sister.

Sincerely,

Precious In His Sight

At my graduation formal, there was dinner and dance and I mostly went there because it was like the last chance to see everyone together. Im not talking about prom since this was a college. We had pictures, dinner and then me and my girlfriends danced. Of course the music wasn't all godly since it wasnt a religious school. What wouldve been the right thing to do here? Would it be to leave after dinner then, as soon as the music came on? The music was a mix, mostly neutral but once in a while must have been ungodly. But then this means the only events you can attend will have to be church events because even wedding parties sometimes have ungodly music. Sorry Im not trying to be technical but sometimes its just hard to know right from wrong, well for me. Thank you so much sister

Wise decisions are made by discerning the will of God, and God reveals His will to those willing to do His will.James 1:22 says,

"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says."

God talks to us by His Word (the bible) and by the leading of the Holy Spirit. John 16:13 says, "The Spirit of truth... will guide you into all truth" And Psalms 119:105 says, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path" Psalms 119:105.

I can see that you are fighting between doing what the Spirit is leading you to do and what other people are saying, Galatians 1:10 says, "Obviously, I'm not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ servant."

My sister don't let the pressures of this world break your relationship with the Most High, obviously you know what the Word says and what your heart is telling you to do. Do the right thing. Going to this party is going to make you miserable because you know what is going to be like. Also every action has consequences for good or for bad. Be strong and tell your sister to respect your decision of not attending the party. Tell her that your heart's desire is to please God. And that you do not want to place yourself in a tempting situation. I will pray for your sister to understand your decision. I am so proud to be able to help you as we grow together in His Word.

Love You Much,

Dear Seeker,

I think you just need to tell them the Truth. Explain what God has done in your life that He has changed you and that the more you draw close to Him the more you desire to please and glorify Him. That IS what is happening in your life. The Holy Spirit in you is revealing God’s will and desire for your life. He is showing you what is pleasing to Him and what is not. He is teaching you how to live carefully in this world so that you will not be led into temptation and so that your life is a living witness to others of Christ Jesus.

You are a new creation in Christ Jesus with new desires and a new mind. Your friends may not understand what is happening in you, but your life will be a witness to them of Christ’s transforming power.
If you pull up the category ‘Partying & Clubbing’ you will find other postings that will help you with scriptures that will clarify what is happening in you.

When I started answering you these are the verses that came to my heart 1 Peter 4:3-5

“You have had enough in the past of the evil things that godless people enjoy—their immorality and lust, their feasting and drunkenness and wild parties, and their terrible worship of idols. Of course, your former friends are surprised when you no longer plunge into the flood of wild and destructive things they do. So they slander you. But remember that they will have to face God, who will judge everyone, both the living and the dead.”

There is also a posting I wrote awhile back called ‘Jesus Freak’ that may be able to help you also.

Don’t be afraid to be different sister. Be obedient to what God is leading you to do and change in your life. Your obedience will be rewarded and you will grow and mature spiritually.

Stay on the narrow road! Matt. 7:14

Sincerely,

I happened to stumble across your website and love it! You all offer great support for young christians. I do have a question for you about this topic...How would you tell your friends "no" about not going clubbing anymore when it used to be something you did on the regular? Thanks and God bless

Thanks for commenting newly born. We love to get feedback from our readers. Often times we put our selves in compromising situations thinking we are 'strong enough' only to find that our sin nature is stronger than our 'will power'. It's Christ in us that gives us the wisdom to not allow ourselves to be lead into temptation.

Thanks again for the comment and stay on touch. Blessings to you in Christ Jesus name..

I used to go clubbing my last year of high school. I too intended not to drink or dance dirty but after a while the temptation to have "a drink" was too strong. When I was drunk I found myself dancing in a way that certainly did not glorify God. Now in college, I regret what I did. No one should have those regrets. Its not worth it.
