Dear Homeless Mom:
My heart truly hurts for you. It is not good for you to be alone with no shelter or food for you and your child. You did not tell us the reason that you left your home, so I will assume that home is a dreadfully bad place and that the Lord would not want you to return there. Before I begin my response under that assumption, I want to first say that family and friends are the first place to turn to for help under normal (and even half-way normal) circumstances. Nobody has a perfect family, but usually, family will come through in times of crisis. If, however, you were being physically or sexually abused at home, then you should certainly get away from such harm. If, however, you have distant family members or friends who could help you, I pray that you will humbly ask for their help. Don’t be ashamed. Everyone needs help at some point in their life. If there is anyone in your life that you know you could turn to, do that first… after, of course, you turn to the Lord with a sincere heart that leans solely upon His love and care.
If there is no one that you know of who can offer some type of help, your next option is to run to a women’s shelter or church for help. God has established institutions in our society that serve as His hands and feet. Jesus loves you and always has a way of escape for those who feel hopeless. His way of escape is never suicide. That is the devil’s way. God’s way of escape gives comfort, peace, food, shelter, and encouragement. These shelters as well as many churches offer a safe place for you and your daughter to rest until you can find peace for your soul and a new way of life.
There is always someone who will help you, but you must approach people with humility. I have seen many hurting homeless souls shunned because of their inability to humble themselves. As you seek out Christian help, you must be willing to receive their encouragement and advice. We all need to allow God to speak to us through mature Christians who come across our path with knowledge from God’s Word. I pray that you will gladly listen to and follow the advice of those who are sincerely trying to help you.
Remember, no matter what you have been through, God has good plans for you. He wants to prosper you and cause you to be in health, but He promises to do this as your soul prospers. This means, you need to desire to know God. You need to desire to learn about God’s Word. And, you need to lean solely upon His love as you aim to live your life as a vessel of love. When I say “vessel of love,” I mean that you need to be like Jesus. Learn His ways and then ask Him to help you to act like His child.

I am reminded of a scripture that says… “I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.” - Psalm 37:25. This is where your hope needs to be. God’s Word says that the righteous (those who are in right standing with God and who trust Him) will not be forsaken. They will not need to beg for food.
My dear sister, the Lord is able to take care of you and He wants to take care of you. Your job is to seek Him with all of your heart, soul, body, and strength. He will direct your path. Run to the church. Run to the homeless shelter or women’s shelter. If possible, run to any distant family or friends who might help you, and, if home is not a place of physical or sexual abuse… run home. There is always hope. There is always a better day ahead.
Psalm 33:18-22 -
“Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy; To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine. Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield. For our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name. Let thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in thee.”
Yours In Christ,
