Dear Anonymous,

Thank you for coming to WeUsed2bu. We pray that this is a place where people can ask questions and get answers that will reflect the love, goodness, and mercy of God, without judgment. I hope that you believe that, and that you understand that what I share with you is from a heart that loves you and wants you to have the very best of what God has planned for you.

You feel confused because in your heart, I believe you sense that this is not what God created you to be. Whether or not you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and have trusted in Him for your salvation, the Bible says in Romans 1 that all of God’s creation has an innate knowledge of God: His truth, His attributes, and His power and authority (Rom. 1:18-21). Everyone makes a personal decision whether or not to serve God, and God allows people to do that, because He gave us free will (Rom. 1:21-25). If we choose not to love and serve Him, it means we’ve chosen to ignore our Creator and go on sinning, and one of those sins is homosexuality (Rom. 1:26). This is not God’s desire for us, and it is not the way He ever designed us to be. He created men and women in His image, and there is nothing corrupt or sinful in Him. Since he condemns homosexuality, then no one can say that homosexuality (or bisexuality, transsexuality, etc.) is God’s will for their lives (Lev. 18:22, 20:13, Rom. 1:28-32). God absolutely loves the people in this world, and doesn’t want anyone to die in their sins apart from Him, but He cannot love sin. He hates it (Habakkuk 1:13). That’s why Jesus died on the cross for us—so that our sins would never have to separate us from God again. Otherwise, if we don’t accept Christ’s sacrifice for us, our sins will keep us separated from God, both now and for eternity (Is. 59:2, John 3:16-18).

The devil, who is the father of lies, has manipulated this fallen world into believing that it’s ok to be gay, and that we should be supportive and accepting of alternative lifestyles. Those are lies. Sexual deviance dishonors both the wisdom of God Who created us, as well as the bodies of those who choose to practice it. And those who approve of that lifestyle, even if they don’t practice it themselves, are also in sin (Rom. 1:24-32). Please don’t misunderstand me—I am NOT saying that I am any less guilty in my own sins than anyone else. Any sin is sin, deserving of judgment and death in God’s eyes, and there is no justification that one sin is less serious than another. The bible says that “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus” (Rom. 3:23-24). That’s why anyone who is willing to confess (agree with God that they are a sinner) and repent (turn away from practicing wrong) will be saved. We are all totally dependent on Jesus Christ for our salvation. There is no other way to get to heaven (Acts 4:12).

The argument that some in the world make regarding alternative lifestyles is that Jesus doesn’t condemn anyone, and that if we are Christians, we are called to love and accept everyone. It’s true that Jesus said that He didn’t come to condemn the world, but to save it (John 12:47). But He also said that He is the way, the truth, and the life, and that no one can come to God except through Him (John 14:6). Jesus IS the Word of God. He cannot approve of anything that the Bible condemns. If something is considered sin in the Bible, then it’s sinful in His eyes as well. The difference is that He took that sin upon Himself on the cross, because His love for sinners was greater than His desire to punish them. His mercy, His lovingkindness, triumphed over judgment (Rom. 2:25, James 2:13). How can we, in the face of that kind of love, turn away and refuse Him? Romans 2:4 asks us the same question: “Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?” God is patient with us, constantly turning away His anger and waiting for us to turn from our sins and come to Him. He takes care of both the sinner and the saved. But it will not always be so. Someday, we will be judged, and if we haven’t turned from our sins and accepted Christ, then we will perish (Rom. 2:5-11).

There are also some who say that you can follow Christ and still practice homosexuality or the like. This is also not true. If we are in Christ, then we are a new creation in Him (II Cor. 5:17). Our old lives are gone and hidden in Him, and we are constantly compelled by the Holy Spirit to do those things that are right and pleasing to God (Col. 3:3, I John 3:9). There is no darkness or sin in God’s nature or character that would tempt us to live sinfully (James 1:13, I John 1:5). Jesus calls us into the light, into good deeds that glorify God. He always leads us away from sin and into righteousness (John 8:11-12). We may still have compulsions in our flesh that try to drag us down and that need God’s healing grace, but we are promised that in Christ there will always be a way to withstand and defeat any temptation (I Cor. 10:13). Sexual immorality is a choice; it was never intended by God to be a lifestyle. No one has to live that way unless they choose to.

The truth is that God created men and women to marry and reproduce as heterosexual couples (Gen. 2:27-28). Jesus affirmed this several times in the New Testament as well (Matt. 19:4-5, Mark 10:6-9). There is no God-ordained and blessed sexual relationship to be had outside heterosexual marriage. We are warned to “flee sexual immorality,” because “the body is not for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body” (I Cor. 6:13, 18). Our bodies were created to be the temple of God, and anyone who defiles that temple, God promises to destroy (I Cor. 3:16-17). That doesn’t contradict God’s mercy; it reflects the natural consequences of promiscuity (such as std’s). Sexuality is a gift from God, and He intended it to be holy in marriage, joining two people into one flesh and spirit (Gen. 2:24, Heb.13:4). Any kind of alternate sexual lifestyle is excluded from His purpose and blessing.

My sister, don’t allow the world to influence your mind and your choices with a bunch of “If it feels good, do it” lies. Those things will only lead to your ultimate unhappiness and destruction. The Lord is waiting to show you how much He loves you, and what wonderful things He has planned for your life if you will only put your trust in Him. Instead of making choices that are only bringing you more confusion, make a choice to follow Jesus. If you will, He promises that you will no longer walk in darkness, but have the light of life (John 8:12).
