Beloved By Him replies…

Dear Sister in Christ,

meditation

The first passage she recommended was Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.” If we try to figure out everything on our own, we are bound to make mistakes. Our hearts will deceive us and our thoughts will mislead us (Jer. 17:9, Is. 55:8). We need to pray and cast our burden on the Lord, knowing that He cares for us, and then learn to “Be still, and know that I am God.” (Ps. 46:10, 55:22, I Peter 5:7).

She also recommended Jeremiah 29:11-13, which says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” We need to remember that God’s will for us is always good. When we find ourselves distracted and sidetracked or even flat out under attack, we have to be confident that this is a Father-filtered event. The Lord is using this moment to refine us, to teach us about ourselves and about Him as well. Whatever happens, it will be for our good (Romans 8:28—another one of Trophy of Grace’s scriptures.) We need to not run from this test, but stand and face it, knowing that God is on our side and will always help us.

Trophy of Grace knows this, and that’s why she also chose Isaiah 41:10. It’s an awesome reminder of God’s promise to always be there for us, giving us help and protection. It says, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” I have actually had this scripture reference, with the words “Fear not!”, on the back of my car for many years. People have stopped me on the road and told me that it has ministered to them! This is definitely a verse that you should commit to memory. When you’re feeling tempted, alone, or weak, think of yourself as resting in the palm of God’s mighty and high right hand.

So now that you know that you’re going to be okay because of God’s wisdom, purpose, and presence, you need to change the channel in your mind. Life can look like a scary movie without the focus on faith, but you can see things differently if you will choose to transform your thinking by renewing your mind with Godly thoughts (Rom. 12:1-2, II Cor. 5:7). The last scripture from Trophy of Grace is Philippians 4:6-13. That passage reminds us that our thoughts affect our attitudes, which affect our actions, and when our thoughts are positive and pleasing to God, we will be able to endure everything and overcome anything. It reads,

philippians4_13ljm1“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made know to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you. But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at last your care for me has flourished again; though you surely did care, but you lacked opportunity. Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me.”

Winning the war in our thoughts is a process. It takes discipline and diligence, but it’s well worth it when we realize how much is at stake, and how awesome it is to live in godliness in this area of our lives. Be strong! God has given us everything we need to fight the good fight, and the battle belongs to Him! (II Peter 1:3, I Tim. 6:12, II Chron. 20:15, II Cor. 10:4-6). I also want to encourage you that the Holy Spirit really will be faithful to come alongside you and help you. If we had to do this all on our own strength, we couldn’t. But we serve a loving God Who never leaves us or forsakes us, and He will make a way where there is no way. The last scripture I want to leave you with is one that is important to both Trophy of Grace and me—it’s John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” Jesus will always give us His peace, and greater is He that is in us than He that is in the world. Keep on praying, sister, stay in the Word, and believe on Jesus for your victory!

Much love,

Beloved by Him
