My Cousin And Sister Are Like Totally Obsessed With Boys

bigstockphoto_two_women_in_living_room_watch_4137361My cousin and sister are like totally obsessed with boys. Everday when we get home from school immediately it’s this story of what this or that boy did today. And my cousin has this funny romance thing going on that I think is hurting her. Every time she’s with the boy she looks sad and angry, never happy. I dont want her to be getting hurt, but I’m younger than them (they’re the same age) and they dont listen to me. It so irritating, but I love them. So what should I do?

Free In Christ replies…

Dear friend:

I can certainly identify with you about the frustration you feel when you see behavior that can lead to more hurt than anything else. Before the Lord rescued me, I faced many experiences where I was led by the lusts of my flesh and surely as the Word says it I have nothing but shameful memories.

Is it wrong for your sister and cousin to be talking about boys all the time? Well, it depends on whether this has become what the Word would call idolatry. Idolatry is not reserved solely for bowing down to wooden statues but to anything that dominates you and exalts itself above God (Col 3:5). Nonetheless, they would have to acknowledge and want the change for themselves.

I realize that because they are older than you it’s going to be really tough to catch their attention but I encourage you to be a godly example and to not give up praying for them (2 Pet 3:11, Rom 12:11).

Ask God quietly in prayer to surround you with godly women who will be not only a great influence to you but to them as well and trust that in due time God will reveal Himself to them creating a change in their hearts (1 Peter 5:6).

God had much grace on all of us and it is good to try to extend that to those around us as we watch His Holy Spirit work.

I trust that God will use your life to encourage all your family and friends…

in HIM,

Free in Christ
