Can I Still Look Cute & Sexy Without Looking Immodest?

Me and my sis read this and she said that if the boys are alrady going to be tempted by other girls whats the difference if u wear a bikini. I dont know what to tell her. She also said that the difference between a tankini and bikini is that you dont show your stomach and how is your stomach sexual.I really don’t know what to say but I think she is wrong. What should I tell her?

Dear sister

What a tough thing to do but we must tell the truth in love and expect God to bring the conviction, in due time, through his Holy Spirit. Before you bring these issues back up to her I would recommend that you pray and ask God to give you an open door and favor in order to bring light into the real issue.

So, let’s begin with her comment. If the boys are already going to be tempted by other girls what is the difference anyway? This kind of thinking has such huge consequences because it could be used by anyone to justify thier own sin. I would honestly say that she is probably not thinking long term. Imagine her special guy would be tempted to do something with someone else and say “everyone is doing it so why not do it myself?”. Would that be pleasing to her?

Therefore if her rule of thumb is, “it’s already being done by others so what is the difference?”, I say that she is in for some painful years ahead. Jesus has given us many commands and the second most important is that we love one another. How do we show love in practical ways to all humanity as a whole? Matthew 7:12 says “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.”

I realize that in her opinion the stomach is not sexual at all but I think that men would differ from her opinion quite a bit. Any skin exposure can really contribute to the weakness of a guy. The bottom line is whether she wants to be a part of the bunch who is already doing it anyway.

As Christians we are called to deny ourselves and never to claim our rights (Mk 8:34). We are called to be the light of the world and not part of the darkness (Matt 5:13). Our standards are completely different than those of the world. What is okay for them is not okay for us.

We are called to be holy as HE is holy (1 Pet 1:16). Being holy means being set apart from the world for his use and for his glory. This is his command because we have been taken out of the world of darkness and placed into the kingdom of His loving Son by grace. Our eyes are now opened to how devastating our behavior was.

Bottom line is that Romans 14:13 tells us that we should make up our mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in our brother’s way.

What would I tell her if I was you? I would probably tell her in the most loving way “Let’s be the light”, “Let’s be different like Jesus was different”, “Let’s show our beauty by being different and godly instead of blending in with everyone else”.

Will she listen to you? We don’t know but I would encourage you to lead by example and be loving to her without compromising yourself.

With grace,

Free in Christ

Thanks for your comment Kaylee :) Continue to use wisdom and seek Him on how you should dress.

Great response “Free In Christ.” I do wear a bikini to the beach, but just knowing what “guys” are always thinking about girls, I also wear a tee too.

When I see a lot of other girls there wearing these bikinis that are so revealing, it makes me kind of scared for them because guys are always thinking about sex. So if a girl dresses modestly she’s really saying that she is not like all those other girls.

I think its soooo important for us girls who love Jesus to dress in a way that says to Jesus… I love You!
