I Didn’t Know How Much Damage I Was Doing

Oh my gosh!!I am kinda scared for my little sister. She and I were talking and she said that she doesn’t believe in God. She asks how does she know the bible is real? How is heaven real? How do you know God is real? And also she thinks she is ugly, fat, bad and annoying. I didnt know what to say to her. I guess the second part is partly my part because when she gets on my nerves I will say, “Your so annoying”. Stuff like that or when she eats too much I’ll say you are already a little chubby. I didn’t know how much damage I was doing. I just didn’t know what else to say to get her to listen because she only seems to listen when someone shouts at her. I don’t want her to go to hell!! But I don’t know how to answer her questions. Oh Lord help. Can you also pray for us?

Dear Sister,
It is very hard to have unsaved family members, especially family members we are very close to and love very much, the way you feel about your sister. I have a number of family members who don’t know Jesus, and it truly pains my heart to think about their eternal future if they don’t accept Him as their Lord and Savior. We must continue to do two very important things: love them with the love of Jesus, and pray and intercede for them constantly.
I know you already love your sister, because you love God and you want to see her saved. The challenge is to pray and ask the Lord to help you love her a stronger and deeper way, through the power of the Holy Spirit and the patience of Christ. Romans 2:4 says that God’s kindness, tolerance, and patience bring us to repentance. Those are the things you need to give your sister if you want to show her God’s love.
Let the law of kindness be in your mouth, and don’t let hurtful words take away from the love of God you want to share with her (Prov. 31:26, Eph. 4:29). Build her up in her spirit by speaking words of truth to her, about how she is loved and treasured by God, how she is fearfully and wonderfully made, and how important she is to you (Jer. 31:3, Ps. 139:14, John 15:13). Be tolerant of her disbelief. Let her express herself without putting her down or insisting she’s wrong, but also be ready to share the truth with her if she asks (I Peter 3:15). And you must, must, must be patient. God’s love bears all things and is ready to suffer a long time (I Cor. 13:4-8). She may not change her mind any time soon, and you may find yourself impatient, wanting to give up on her, or plain old frustrated. But just as the Lord has a plan for her life, He also has one for yours, and it seems to include teaching you patience through this relationship. James 1:4 says, “But let patience have its perfect work, so that you will be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” Love and patience go hand in hand, so keep asking the Lord for the love you need for your sister, so you can be who God’s called you to be in her life—a living witness of Christ.
Don’t get rattled when your sister has doubts about the truth of the Bible. Share with her Psalms 18:30, “As for God, His way is perfect, His word is proven, He is a shield to all who trust Him.” God’s ways are always better than our ways, sometimes beyond understanding, but always in our best interests (Rom. 8:28, Is. 55:8). God’s word is tried and true, useful and productive for every situation in our lives, and comes alive in us, even into our very soul and spirit (II Tim. 3:16-17, Heb. 4:12). God is far more trustworthy than our own instincts or desires, even more than our own hearts, and He will always lead us in paths of wisdom and righteousness (Prov. 3:5-6, Ps. 23:3). Let your sister know you are there to help her understand the Bible, and remember that she is watching how you live your faith—if you have a devotional life, if you are walking with the Lord, honoring His word.
If she’s ever open to hearing about why we all need a Savior, you can share with her the Romans Road—a series of verses in Romans that explain sin and salvation. Briefly,
We’ve all sinned and fallen short of God’s glory. (Rom. 3:23)
The punishment for sin is death, but God’s gift to us is eternal life in Christ. (Rom. 6:23)
God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Jesus died for us. (Rom. 5:8)
Whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved, so if we confess with our mouths and believe with our hearts that Jesus is Lord, we’re saved from sin and death. (Rom. 10:9-13)
Hopefully someday you will be able to share the plan of salvation with your sister. Until, keep praying for her and standing in the gap for her, asking the Lord to protect her and to bring her closer and closer to Him. Remember, “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” (James 5:16) The Lord put you with your sister so you can keep planting seeds of faith in her heart. She is blessed to have you in her life, more than she knows. We are proud of you for your commitment to the Lord and to her, and we pray that she will receive salvation soon! Let’s pray:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come to you today asking for Your grace and mercy to cover us. We ask for Your forgiveness for the hardness of our hearts, when we know we should be patient and tolerant, and when we’re not obedient to submit to one another in love. We ask for Your Spirit to renew our hearts and minds, Lord Jesus, so that we can truly love those whom You have put into our lives for Your great purpose, to teach us love and patience and longsuffering and mercy. I ask, Lord, that my sister would be encouraged, that she would remember how much You love her, and that she is blessed in You every day. I pray that she would be able to minister to her sister as well, that she would not give up or grow tired of doing right, but that she would be strong in You so that You can do a mighty work through her and in her. I pray that the sister would be saved, Lord Jesus, so that she would have eternal life in Your heavenly kingdom. I pray that no weapon of the enemy would prosper against these young women, but that Your purpose would prevail and that Your will would be done in their lives. Thank You for Your word, for Your truth, and for Your life that compels us to love You and others. We would be nothing without You, Lord, and we give You all the glory and honor and praise. May You always be glorified in our lives, Lord Jesus. In Your name we pray, Lord, Amen.
Keep fighting the good fight of faith with a soft tongue, a good word, and a loving heart toward your sister. God is truly able to do exceedingly abundantly above what we can ask or imagine. (Eph. 3:20-21)
Much love,
Beloved by Him
