I just read these 2 books called A Time to Dance and A Time to Embrace by Karen Kingsbury. They were so good, but sad, especially the way that the two people almost got divorced because they wouldnt alk.it SEEMED SOO EASY!!I mean tey could just talk it out and presto evrything would be ok.In the end they got together after like an hour of talking!
Anyway,in the story there was a character named Nicole and she was so sweet and gentle and loving, and always knew the right thing to say.She was also pretty. But most of all,she knew how to pray so deeply and she knew the Lord soo well.I want to be like that, but i dont know how to do it,especially the prayer part. And im overweight, which i am trying to get ahold of but its really hard!
I just want to be able to lean on God for everthing and put him first but how?!!
ps how can u pray for hours and hours?

Hi there;
These books sound really goodâŠglad you spend time reading because your mind has the opportunity to think things through and grow in the process. Reading has become such a forgotten art yet we can truly equip ourselves greatly if we choose to practice this discipline. More on disciplines laterâŠ
Wow, this girl does sound wonderful. I like how you point out that she is sweet, gentle, loving and even wise in her responses. She sounds so much like Jesus. Truly HE is our example and our goal. These are fantastic traits to gain and practice on our daily life.
But how? Rom 13:11-14 commands us to lay aside old behavior specifically the lusts of the flesh. What are the lusts of the flesh? Anything you must have and even have it NOW! Every time our flesh throws a fit and is willing to do whatever to get what it wants should be considered satisfying the flesh.
Say you donât have money but you see others buying better phones and your flesh just has a fit saying âif everyone else can do it why not me?â The issue is can you afford it without causing yourself more debt? The flesh is put under submission when you tell it âNOâ, âNOT NOWââŠ
Instant gratification is what your flesh is demanding, but saying âNOâ will help you get your flesh under control and grow in those wonderful character traits you mentioned above. This is the practical way to do it however dependence on God, the Holy Spirit, is a must!
Putting off the old self and putting on the new character we have through the Holy Spirit is the discipline we need to begin in our daily living. (Eph 4:23-25)
I think itâs wonderful that you desire to lean on God for everything. Surely this will lead to a wonderful life (Prov 3:5-6).
How can you pray for lengthy periods of time? Well, prayer is one of the disciplines we must put into practice even if we start a little bit at a time. Nothing as good as prayer will ever happen just by chance.
Jesus is our beautiful example in that HE always retreated from the business of his day to spend much needed time with His Father. (Matt 14:23, Mk 6:46) Itâs really all about priorities and establishing the discipline. I assure you that your flesh will fight you but you must press on.
I must confess that itâs tough for me to set these boundaries on my crazy schedule. But we must practice little by little until we have our time set aside for sure.
I would encourage you to open your Bible and read along asking the Father to grant you illumination and understanding of His Word. Ask HIM to meet you there and speak to you because you can not go on without hearing from HIM. Bring a notepad along as well and write down anything you think HE might be saying to you.
Always start by praising HIM for who HE is. Think of all His attributes and just say them outloudâŠthings like âYOU are mightyâ, âYou are an amazing, loving Godâ, âYou are holy as no one else is holyâ, âyour ways are so much higher than our ways and I trust in YOUâ, âYou are my place of refugeâ, âYou are my heartâs desireââŠthen you can move on to petition for yourself and others as did Jesus in John 17.
Before you know it time will have passed and you will be so full of peace and joy for having spent time with the Giver of all good gifts (Js 1:17).
With regards to the issue you have with being overwheightâŠwelcome to my life! I have come to realize that though I deprive my flesh of other things I donât do very well when it comes to food. I eat and eat and try to justify it by thinking itâs not a sin. The truth is that I am leaning on food to satisfy my flesh many times and it is not pleasing to the LORD, nor is it any fun for me. So, what can we do? Pray and obey!
At the moment I am trying to ask the LORD in prayer to help me submit this issue to HIM as well. I have to trust that as HE strengthens me that I will be wiser in what I eat and exercise to keep a healthier body.
Hope these answers help lead you into a more intimate time with your Lord.
love,
