It’s Not Fasting If You’re Anorexic

Bought with Blood writes…

Hey, it’s the anorexic chic again. Yah, I’m still anorexic, but I told my boyfriend and shockingly he’s not only still wanting to be my boyfriend, but he prays for me everyday. We’re having a little disagreement over things right now though. See my church is doing a 30 hour famine. Of course as the pastors daughter, I’m expected to participate. And I want to. But, my bf thinks I shouldn’t do it because it’s not fasting if you’re anorexic. I think, I’m not gonna eat anyways, so why not make money for a charity. I told him that I didn’t wanna fight, so I’d ask someone who’s older and knows more than us. So, I’m asking… Is it ok for me to fo 30 hour famine?

Precious in His Sight replies…

Hello Bought with Blood,

I want to thank you for writing into this website with your concerns. As I read your question, my heart is filled with concern for your well being. Before I address your question, I want to ask you a few questions that will perhaps allow you to take a clear look at yourself.

Why do you refer to yourself as the “The Anorexic Chic”?

Why have you labeled yourself with such a disorder?

Don’t you know that your body is the temple of God Almighty! The Great Jehovah! The Great I Am! The Beginning and The End!

You were created in His image. (Genesis 1:27; So God created people in his own image; God patterned them after himself; male and female he created them after.)

bigstock_bright_sunflower_13212-1Can you imagine the Creator of this world having an eating disorder?

You are His daughter!

You are His seed!

You were created to carry out a plan that was specifically made just for you! (Jeremiah 29:11; For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.)

Why would you knowingly go against all that our God has made you to be?

You have given yourself the name as Bought with Blood and then you also call yourself Anorexic Chic. That’s a bit of a contradiction. Yes you were bought with the blood of Jesus when He died on the cross for your sins. As I mentioned before, your body is the temple that God dwells in, and He bought you at a high price. (1Corinthians 6:19-20; Or don’t you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.)

The high price that the bible is referring to is the cost of Christ’s death which freed us from everyone of our sins, therefore giving us an obligation to serve His Kingdom. How can we do that if we go against His will?

God loves you so very much. He has created you into a young beautiful woman. He wants you to learn love yourself and others and carry out the work for His kingdom.

I am so happy that you are considering taking part in this 30 hour famine at your church, but I have to ask you, are you doing it for the right reason? Are you only doing this because you are the Pastors daughter and it is expected of you?

You say that you are not eating anyway so why not make some money for the charity, is that really a good reason to bring glory to God’s kingdom?

I did a little research on Anorexia and I want to share a few websites with you.

Both of these sites discuss the reasons behind eating disorders such as Anorexia and what the bible says about it.

I want to also share with you a few websites that share stories of young women who have battled with eating disorders. Take the time to read through and listen to the heart of these young women and find your place in one of their stories. And then refer back to the scriptures that I gave you along with the ones that are given in the websites on eating disorders and see where you fit into God’s word.

It truly touches my heart to read about beautiful young girls like yourself, that choose to take on this path in your life.

I ask the question to you, how are you to serve God, be a real daughter, friend and loved one to those that love you so dearly, by taking on a problem in your life that can turn into something tragic?

Have you ever asked yourself why you want to be this way? And if you have, what was your answer?

Think about this; how can an addict truly carry out the plans that God has etched out for their life if they are always absorbed in their own addiction?

When you look in the mirror, what exactly is it that you see? Do you see the beautiful and vibrant young woman that God created you to be? If not, take a long hard look because she’s there, that beauty is standing right there looking back at you.

And to answer your original question about participating in the 30 hour famine, if your heart is doing it for the right reason and not just because you’re the Pastors daughter, and if your motives aren’t selfish and you’ve prayed and God is ok with it, then by all means go for it. But please, go along with the guidelines of the famine and eat or drink whatever they are requiring of you. During this time, please pray for yourself and ask God to release you from this eating disorder so that your body, heart and soul will be healed in order to carry out God’s will for your life.

Proverbs 3:6; Seek His will in all you do, and He will direct you paths.

Be blessed,

Precious In His Sight
