bigstock-girl-surfing-on-the-internet-25500746Hi, thank God for this website! I need some much appreciated Christian advice. Lately I feel like I’ve been on the Internet waaaay too much and its negatively affecting my spiritual life. I use the Internet almost everyday and I sometimes find myself in bad websites with people saying horrible things that affect my thinking. The Bible says, I believe in Corinthians, that bad company affects good character. This is so true! Please tell me what I should do please! I need help. My head hurts from all this negativity. I feel bad that God has kind of been out of the equation. If you can help please do, and pray for me sisters! Thank you so much in advance.

Dear R,

I know how you feel about all the negativity on the internet. Even though I try to stay away from the negative things, I find that spending time online can become a distraction for me. The time that I spend surfing the web could be used else where. Sometimes after one of my surf sessions I feel awful for wasting my time. I try to be aware of the amount of time I spend on the computer and I try to hold myself accountable to going on to do what I have to do and get off. I have even had to set timers for myself so that I stay on task. Maybe you should try that.

But first I would suggest that you go on a fast from the internet, unless of course you need it for school or work purposes. Take time away and use that time you would spend on the internet to be in the Word of God, (the bible) and in prayer. Allow the Holy Spirit to minister to your heart and renew your mind. Allow God’s Spirit to deliver you from this internet addiction. That is what the fasting is for, to break the bondage that you are in. (Isaiah 58:6)

When you go back on stay away from sites and teachings that contradict the truth of God’s Word. Don’t allow yourself to be influenced by those that twist the Word of God to satisfy those with the itchy ear syndrome. (see 2 Timothy 4:3-4 ) Find sites that will help build you up in your faith and encourage you. There are some good Christian sites out there that will help you.

Also if you’re on Facebook, hide those people from your news feed who are negative and post ridiculous things. I have hidden people from my news feed to where now when I go on Facebook I get ministered to. I love it.

I hope something I have said has ministered to you. I will pray for you also.

I leave you with this verse:

For no temptation (no trial regarded as enticing to sin), [no matter how it comes or where it leads] has overtaken you and laid hold on you that is not common to man [that is, no temptation or trial has come to you that is beyond human resistance and that is not adjusted and adapted and belonging to human experience, and such as man can bear]. But God is faithful [to His Word and to His compassionate nature], and He [can be trusted] not to let you be tempted and tried and assayed beyond your ability and strength of resistance and power to endure, but with the temptation He will [always] also provide the way out (the means of escape to a landing place), that you may be capable and strong and powerful to bear up under it patiently. – 1 Corinthians 10:13 (Amplified Bible)

Sincerely,

Trophy of Grace
