Lately I Have Been Having A Dissatisfied Heart
Hi His Precious Gift,
I was drawn again to the testimony of your life. We are so very similar in terms of the age that we decided to take a serious walk with Jesus. My question to you concerns pride. I am a very ambitious young woman and consider myself to be somewhat sucessful. No, I’m not wealthy, although the Bishop of my church says that Jesus died so we can have an abundant life and I truly believe that. However, lately I have been having a dissatisfied heart in terms of where I am in life in terms of my financial status. I work for commissions so sometimes I make surplus amounts and other times just enough to get by. The months that I make just enough to get by I am disatisfied because I know what it is like to get surplus. I know in my heart I should not feel this way. I even read the scriptures on materialism that this site posted and yes it did speak to my heart. I don’t think it’s healthy to feel this way and I am very aware that the Lord is looking at my heart right now. How do I get this out of my heart for good? Do I just pray about it and keep focusing on those scriptures? I absolutely hate the way I feel inside because of all the good things the Lord has done for me already. I feel very guilty that I feel a craving for material things as well such as a nice car, house, career, etc. Hope u can help :/
My precious sister:
Prideful thinking opposes God’s Word. I believe pride is the ultimate blessing blocker. When a person operates in pride, he refuses to submit to God. Instead, he trusts his own words, abilities, talents and ways more than God. Pride will block the flow of God’s blessing and ultimately cause your downfall. God hates pride (Proverbs 8:13). God distances Himself from the proud person (Psalm 138:6). God resists the proud but exalts the humble (James 4:6).
I know you are struggling with this but I want to remind you what John 10:10 says,
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
By bringing confusion, guilt and uncertainty he is making you question the Word of God that is so in your heart. Pride will result in shame (Proverbs 11:2). Pride will result in destruction and downfall (Proverbs 16:18). Pride will result in being brought low (Proverbs 29:23). Pride will deceive you (Obadiah 1:3).
You ask if you should pray and focus on scripture, I would say “yes”. You are going through a trial right now, your heart is in the right place but your mind is wondering and that is what the enemy does, he makes you doubt what you know as a daughter of a King. Remember that when you trust is in God, your heart is established and secure.
Another point I wanted to make is always follow the instructions on tithing, which is very important, it should be the first thing you do. It will open the windows of heaven. Tithing is a love action. We tithe because we love God and appreciate the things He does for us every day. Our tithing benefits us. When we give our tithes with a cheerful attitude, God blesses us.
I also wanted to point out that it’s ok to want a new car; it’s ok to want a new house, and be successful in life. God is not opposed to Christians owning material things. However, he is opposed to the material things “possessing” or dominating Christians.
I want you to know that I know how you feel. I have had times in my life when I say, “Lord I know what your word says and yet in some way I feel so out of focus.” You are not alone my love. I will be praying for you, as I hope you say a prayer for me and together we will continue in our journey as Sisters in Christ!!
Here are some articles that may help you and better help you understand my instructions on tithing & giving.
